Muscat

The Muscat grapes are popular for wines, table grapes and raisins. There are various types of Muscat grapes like Muscat Blanc, Muscat Rose, Moscato (Italy), Muscadel and Muscat Alexandria, etc. The grapes generally have a sweet taste and are mostly used for creating sparkling and dessert wines. The color of the grape can be white to nearly black. Due to the numerous grape varieties of Muscat, it is supposed to be oldest domesticated variety of grapes. Varieties of Muscat grapes are grown all over the world in countries like Australia, Hungary, Israel, Germany, France, Mexico, Canada etc.

Gewurztraminer

Gewurztraminer is an aromatic grape variety of wine which is best grown in cooler regions. Originated in Germany, the word Gewurz literally means spicy in German language. The grape is pinkish and reddish in color but it is a white wine grape. It has a floral fragrance and a spicy flavor as its name suggests. Due to its aromatic flavor, the wine prepared from Gewurztraminer makes it one of the only few wines that goes well with the Asian cuisine. The grapes can also be made into a delicious late harvest dessert wine. Apart from Germany, Gewurztraminer grapes are also cultivated in California, Italy, Australia and Canada.

Riesling

Riesling is a white wine grape variety which is native to the Rhine Valley of Germany. The grape is known for its musky flowery aroma and is mostly used to make sweet, dry and sparkling wines. The characteristic of Riesling wine is significantly influenced by the place of origin of the wine (terrior). Along with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling is considered to be the top three white wines. The grape is resistant to frost so it is grown extensively in Northern Europe. After Germany, this grape variety is mostly grown in France, Austria, Italy, Australia, United States, South Africa etc. Riesling is also used to produce Ice wines.

Sauvignon Blanc

Originated in Bordeaux, France, Sauvignon Blanc is a green skinned, white wine grape variety. The grape produces a lot of crop and is generally a low cost grape variety. The wine made from this grape is usually light and crisp and has a grassy flavor. The wine also and has a high acid content. It is often called Fume Blanc in the United States. The wine is usually not aged as it can be best enjoyed when young. The grape is extensively grown in France, California, Chile, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Brazil. The grape is also used for producing some famous dessert wines.

Chardonnay

Chardonnay is a classic white wine grapes variety and probably one of the most popular. The origin of the grape is believed to have been in the Burgundy region of France. The wine produced has less acidity and can need slightly cooler weather conditions to grow. The wine made from this grape tends to have fruity flavors of peach, melon, etc. Also as the wine is aged in oak, it also has an oaky flavor. It can also pick vanilla flavor if aged in oak barrels. Chardonnay is an important constituent of many Champagnes and sparkling wines all over the world. Being easy to grow, the grape is extensively cultivated in almost all wine producing countries.
