Barossa valley

The beautiful Barossa valley is the one of the oldest and most popular wine regions of Australia. It is located in South Australia near the city of Adelaide. The Barossa region produces some best varieties of wine which includes Chardonnay, Semillon, Riesling, Mourvedre, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and the very famous Barossa Shiraz. Some fortified wines are also produced here.
The wine history of Barossa valley dates back to 1850s with a strong German predominance on its wine culture. It is also the only wine region in Australia that was influenced by the Germans rather than the British. In the mid 20th century, the Barossa valley began losing its shine due to the increasing popularity of the ‘prestigious’ Cabernet Sauvignon, and Barossa was a predominantly Shiraz producing region.
But in 1980s the delectable and rich flavored Barossa Shiraz started capturing worldwide attention due to its characteristic style, making Barossa region a leading wine industry in Australia. Though distinguished for its red wines, Barossa also produces a large quantity of white wines with Riesling leading the way. The famous wineries in the region are Peter Lehmann, Seppeltsfield, Penfolds, Yalumba and Wolf Bass.
Barossa is also known for its picturesque countryside and blend of European and Australian heritage architecture. The valley offers a lot for the tourists with wine tours and tasting, churches, architecture, good hotels and lots of activities to do.
